I was asked to create some promotional artwork for the unique Tunnel 2k Race in Newcastle England.  I’ve done the race a few times- nothing like it.  It takes you through the Tyne Tunnel, a carriageway under the historic Tyne River.  It is a 100m sprint to the mouth of the Tunnel, a 1km decent reaching speeds of over 60kms/h, then a grueling 1k uphill climb to the finish. A truly unique race which showcases some of the best racers from around the world, in a unique sport which combines muscle and machine.  A sport of tomorrow in a famous ancient setting.

The artwork I created depicts the ancient River Tyne god, blowing through this “new breed” of athlete.  Combining the elements of the past and future I mentioned.

I really wanted to do a good job on this… I always want to do a good job, but if you know a real artist, they are probably one of many that are not always satisfied with their work.  I really wanted to make this a piece I was completely happy with, which means alot of reworking and extra time. All in all nearly 100 hours of work.
